MARKETING
TIP #079
Spam Filter Food
If you’re working on an e-mail campaign, beware of the spam filters that will kick you out into cyberspace. Here’s a list of 20 words, according to the folks at www.businessknowhow.com that are guaranteed to get you kicked out if you use them in your subject line:
- Amazing
- Cancel at any time
- Check or money order
- Congratulations
- Dear Friend
- E-mail Marketing
- For only ($)
- Free (including toll-free)
- Great offer
- Guarantee
- Increase Sales
- Order now
- Promise you
- Risk free
- Special promotion
- This is not spam
- To be removed
- Unsubscribe
- Winner
Remember to keep your subject line as simple as possible and avoid using hard-sell language. As a rule of thumb, the more your subject line sounds like an ad, the more likely it will be ignored or will end up in a spam folder.
