Hot Colors?
Colors come and colors go…remember the avocado green refrigerators and the mauve and gray combination corporations fell in love with several decades ago? They're not hot anymore.
Today's hot colors? According to Pantone, the color experts, the number one color for 2005 is "Moroccan Blue" and the number two color is "Glazed Ginger." In other words, blue and brown.
It seems as though UPS and Starbucks are making "brown" the up and coming "it" color, but where did the blue come from?
According to Reverie Magazine's report on color, while blue has always been popular, it was propelled to the top spot by its prominence in the operating platforms for both Microsoft's Windows and Apple's iMac. And since colors cycle through various categories from fashion to appliances to automobiles, it's also worth noting that sales of both blue and light-brown cars are up.
Worth noting in relation to the top ten list of hot colors: right below the top ten, moving up each year, is "Vibrant Orange." Falling off the list for the first time in six seasons is "Pink," which, according to a Pantone spokesperson, "has run its course and has become so ubiquitous."
It's interesting to watch colors come and go as long as the colors in your brand stay consistent. The power of branding is consistency. So wear that "Moroccan Blue" or "Glazed Ginger" in your suit or tie - don't mess with your logo colors.
