MARKETING TIP #005
Controlling the Holiday Crazies

Welcome to the Holiday Season, a time for family, fun and tons of stress! For some marketers (retail), it’s a make or break time; for others it’s a time of year-end tweaking of plans, finalizing budgets and getting ready to gear up for the new year.

For all marketers, here are some tips on controlling holiday stress and making this a truly blessed season:

1.) Fabulous Fridays — Here at North Star Marketing we work half-days on Friday during the holiday season so that everyone will have more time to relax and enjoy the season. It’s not free time – we work an extra hour every day during the week to get Friday afternoons off, but everyone loves it.

2.) Plan ahead — The things that need to be addressed for the holiday season are better handled when you plan ahead and work your plan. Is it a surprise to you every year that Christmas is on December 25th? Take the time to do things sooner, at your pace and without the stress of last minute anxiety.

3.) Don’t sweat the small stuff — The need for a perfect holiday season can ruin a truly memorable one, so don’t worry that you didn’t get everything done. Rather, enjoy having a good time and save some things for next year.

4.) Enjoy the spirit of the season every day — Rather than plan for one or two big events, create a small celebration every day that will keep you in the spirit. Whether you have lunch with a co-worker, share a gift with a customer or just say “Thanks” to your boss, each day is an opportunity to create a great holiday season.

5.) Go easy on the customer gifts — There’s business etiquette to follow, but we’ve found that a simple gift is most appreciated. Clients don’t care about lavish, expensive gifts that they know they’re paying for, so make your gift come from the heart.

Safe travels this holiday season and enjoy the trip!
