An Airport Sales Encounter
I recently returned from a San Diego speaking engagement and had a layover in Pittsburgh. I poked my head into an airport bookstore and picked up Carolyn Kepcher’s book, “Carolyn 101: Business Lessons from The Apprentice’s Straight Shooter.”
At the checkout I encountered one of the best salesmen I’ve ever met. He mentioned that if I liked Caroline’s book, I’d probably like Steven Covey’s new book, “The Eighth Habit,” and then steered me to two other new business books that were just out by authors with whom I was familiar. Four books and a great conversation later, I headed out on my next flight home.
The guy was a great salesman without even trying to be because he loved the product and his comments about the books were authentic “reader” comments. He had me sold.
So, lesson learned? When you have a passion for your product, selling is the natural by-product of sharing the love. And, by the way, Caroline’s book is a good read.
Talk to you soon,
